Located 467 km south east of Adelaide, Port MacDonnell is the southernmost town in South Australia.
More commonly referred to as ' Australia's Southern Rock Lobster Capital'.
This seaside town is a popular holiday destination during the summer and public holidays and was once the home to acclaimed poet, Adam Lindsay Gordon.
Nature lovers will appreciate the ruggedness of the wild coastline which lay claim to countless shipwrecks.
Freshwater ponds are nearby in deep limestone caverns, providing an amazing scuba-diving opportunity.

Points of Interest:

-Cape Northumberland offers the opportunity to observe the Fairy Penguins that return to their colony at sunset.

-Discover a world, thousands of years in the making at the Petrified Forest, created by a forest of trees that have been eroded by the seas to create an interesting rock formation of petrified wood.

- Follow the nature trail through Germein Wetland and discover the native flora and local birdlife nesting in their boxes or listen for some of Australia's rarest frogs.

- Climb Mt Shank for the opportunity to walk around the crater of Australia's youngest dormant volcano and enjoy the panoramic view of the countryside.

- Visit Dingly Dell, the former home of the famous, romantic poet, Adam Lindsay Gordon and see where he spent some of his happiest and most fruitful years."Where the music of wattle bird, magpie and thrush was never far away, and the growl of the sea came muted from the rocks of Cape Northumberland".
Open seven days from 9am to 4pm, admission is free.

- Piccaninnie Ponds is a large reed swamp with subterranean springs and has a reputation as one of Australia's best cave diving destinations. Permits required and limited to CDAA members only.

- Ewens Ponds Conservation Park is also an interesting wetland habitat that allows crystal clear water to flow directly to the sea via Eight Mile Creek. Suitable for scuba diving and snokelling.

- Interesting Rock Formations with names like 'Rhinoceros', 'Frog' and 'Camel Rock' along with the 'Map of Australia reef' are still recognisable after years of pounding seas and can be veiwed along the Cape Northumberland tourist drive.

- The Community Hall mural covers 233 square metres and depicts the history of the town, painted by 416 locals under the guidance of registered artist, Kathy Mabon.
